a useful review guide Overall, a useful review guide. Most beneficial for concepts that need reviewing. Explanations are inadequate for concepts that you have not been exposed to previously.Book is a life saver for the Sat physics subject test The practice tests are slightly harder then the actual sat subject test. The book helped a lot. It has every single topic you need to know summarized quickly. I knew nothing and learned everything from the book so I could get a high score.Great tool for preparation! Not sure what the outcome will be but my son felt well prepared by using this book. As others have said, the actual test was easier.

Charming! I've read all the Winterton sisters so far, and this one was especially delightful. I loved Fanny. She also annoyed me at times, but I feel that's normal, with our differences in personality. This is a sweet, unique story. It's not high action or fast paced, no, but I really liked the slow build up between her and Ferdy, as well as the triple murder in the background. *beware of some spoilers ahead*What a couple of dorks! I loved how mild mannered, yet lovesick, Ferdy was, even in the worst of circumstances (and it gets kind of bad). He handled everything with grace and civility. Even when rejected by Fanny, he went out of his way to see that she was comfortable in his presence and around his family, because he loved her. You just don't meet guys like that every day! I loved how friendly his whole family was, and that they didn't care a bit about Fanny's status or lack of dowry. It was sweet. I could really feel the warm family atmosphere the Makenham's had, and it reminded me of my own. Not these cold, supercilious rich people we so often see in Regency stories.That Ferdy and Fanny were both so attentive to clothing design, fit, and presentation was cute. It made me think, 'wow, these two were really a match made in heaven.' They kind of reminded me of Charles Bingley and Jane Bennet. Just two unfailingly kind, sweet-natured people. I do agree that the way you present yourself is extremely important, and you can tell a lot about a person by the care they put into their appearance. So I enjoyed the descriptions of clothing and style. It seemed fitting, considering it was Fanny's livelihood, in a way, and Ferdy's hobby. It made their characterizations believable to me.I did get annoyed at Fanny's excessive.. romantic.. ideals. I could clearly tell they were meant to be, but Fanny just *had* to have that "thunderbolt" moment where she knew she was madly in love. I don't really believe in that stuff, so it wore on my nerves to see her reject poor Ferdy on those grounds. I think you can meet someone and just *know*, but I don't think you need to be struck suddenly with undeniable passion and adoration for a person. Regardless of how long it took, I was very happy to see things work out.I did think the crime angle wasn't quite as prominent as some of others, but that probably had to do with the nature of the murders. People kept tryin to sweep it under the rug because two of the women were prostitutes, like that means they're not human. LUCKILY my boy Ferdy is a sweet darling who wouldn't take that BS. Just for that, he was my favorite of the Winterton suitors.I could predict the culprit almost as soon as they were introduced, but I usually can with these novels. However, I find it very interesting to see how it all unfolds, and their motivation for such a crime. It all wrapped up nicely, though I can't imagine regarding a person so calmly, even if I knew them from childhood, if they had raped or murdered women who were beneath their station and therefore "beneath" anyone's notice. I don't think I could even be in the same room as him. I guess things were different back then.Overall, a sweet, happy romance between two sweet, happy people, with mystery and intrigue to boot! Looking forward to seeing how this all wraps up in Book 5.Sloth slow and lifeless The story progressed at a sloths pace......page after page of slow moving story. The slowness in their even being in each other's company is finally reached well into the story. Page after page describing the outfits and clothing being worn by the not only the women but also the men! Every few pages someone's clothes are being detailed and then following this are endless paragraphs on what is says about the person. Absolutely lifeless! Didn't finish.Weak book by an otherwise great writter. I found this title to be the weakest one I've read by this author. All the characters seem sort of weak and pathetic. Wishywashy. Not a single character seems to have any strong emotion. Fanny, for a character who say marriage without love is not worth having comes across as a character who doesn't feel strongly enough to have that kind of passion. And Ferdie seems to foc;used on appropriate behavior to ever go after what he wants or to ever stand up against what is wrong. I never finished it. Maybe I will eventually, but they are just so boring as characters that I find it hard to push through. The maid who was raped and tossed out when she ended up pregnant seemed to have more personality than any of the main characters.

I started reading shortly after midnight, stopped for a nap at page 259, then read the rest of the book by 6:30 am!Now, I'm looking forward to go back and work through the exercises, because, dang, it's 2019 and it's high time! My life has expanded and contracted in waves over the years, and has been just ... stagnant ... for some time. I finally have a map to navigate my way out of the clouds towards the life I was meant to live. And that's a GREAT feeling!So, why am I waxing lyrical about what could be thought of as a list of directions? Because Best Self is so much more than that. UPDATE UPDATE:I would like to add an update & increase a star on my review. After working in this book now for a few weeks, I have realized that the color of the paper is much more favorable to the color of Secret Garden for these images of the ocean and for the color palette. I also think the paper quality is a little better than originally thought. WITH THAT SAID, when you use colored pencils especially (and use a blender), it causes the corresponding pages to rub the images of the drawings through the pages. This paper quality could really still be much better and when that *hopefully* comes out, I will be buying another one so that I can use the images on oppostie pages that were ruined with either bleed through or image rub-off.USED: Prismacolor Colored Pencils, Stabilo Point 88 Pens, and Staedtler Triplus Fineliner PensThe drawings are beautiful; however, the paper is awful. Considering I have the staedler triplus pens that are branded "Johanna basford" and they bleed through this paper - I would say that's very wrong. I have the secret garden book and it is FABULOUS. Never have bleed-through with any medium I have used. This book's paper is just not up to the quality of secret garden. I'm really disappointed because if I saw this in person before buying it...I wouldn't have. So this isn't a negative review of the artwork, but a definite negative review of the publisher.Disappointed I've had Lost Ocean preordered for many months now. I was extremely excited when the time finally came for it to be delivered. I was checking my front step every hour as it was out for delivery. The second I got it, I ripped it open and skimmed the pages. All I really saw was patterns and mandalas. I buy Johanna's books because they hardly ever had patterns or mandalas since I don't enjoy doing them. Also, compared to her other books, it has some very small detail. Me and many other colorers in my Coloring Group have trouble with small spaces. We have to strain our eyes to do it, and then by the time we get one little space done, we have a splitting headache. Also, our pencils and markers are way to big for most of the spaces since they are so tiny. I have also heard from a few of our groups members that Staedtler markers are bleeding through their pages. There's only maybe 10 pages I will probably color. I wish the book was more like the fold out page in the back. I was expecting way more types of fish and tens of different kinds of sea creatures. Don't get me wrong, the book is beautiful and Johanna has some really amazing talent, but I was definitely expecting more after such build up of the book.First the good then the bad This is my first adult coloring book. I really do love it.There's a nice blend of intricate, detailed areas for folks that like close up coloring and areas that are bigger for those that enjoy large area coloring. I personally like both and would be pretty disappointed if there wasn't a blend of both.The one thing that I would like to see improvement on is the paper quality. Although the thickness is nice and my markers do not leak through, if I blend too much, the paper starts to disintegrate.I'm using Tombow 10 pack markers in "Jelly Bean".

A fitting end to a fantastic series I'm writing this at nearly a quarter past 1 AM, having just finished the book in one long, unbroken sitting and have more feels than I can process anytime soon. But I wanted to get all this down while it was still fresh in my mind, and in line with the overall impression the series has left me with.As someone who aspires to be an author, I know the struggle to juggle characters' development, flow of plot and organic, unhurried development of the world and its lore is a tumultuous one, regardless of what genre you write in. I can also safely say that it is a juggling act Sarah J. Maas has in her own ways performed to beautiful and lasting results.Young adult series are often overlooked or brushed off as being trope fodder for teenagers, despite some of the most acclaimed and memorable amongst them like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and A Series of Unfortunate Events gaining world-wide renown and even enjoying some of the better (and some of the not so great) efforts of cinematic adaptation. Part of what makes them and others like them some of the best and received to such popularity stems from not treating their target audience as young or naive, not sugarcoating or omitting the darker or more mature aspects of life and the worlds the stories create for themselves. The Throne of Glass series shares this trait, but expands on it in tandem with the way Maas works to create her characters and let them grow as much as the world around them unfolds and develops with the story in turn.While the first book did have some growing pains to it, from the second onward it was clear Maas knew what kind of story she wanted to tell and wasn't afraid of pouring as much humanity into her characters or lack thereof to craft it as best she could, and in a world packed with enough organic detail to see it as the living, breathing thing that it was. Aelin Galathynius is as much a strong, driven and cunning character as she is human, emotional and vulnerable, and falls into exactly none of the numerous tropes and literary pitfalls that can plague many female protagonists, especially in fantasy fiction. And she isn't the only one, Maas shows no qualms about filling her world with female powerhouses that could all viably headline their own sagas with ease, and even then she doesn't short the male characters at all in terms of their own intrigue and development in the short or longer term plot.This series has garnered a major following in the years since its initial release for good reason. While the romance angle is indeed a central aspect, the medieval era political struggles, fantasy action and magical combat have always been strong supporting aspects throughout each book as well. The characters feel real and their struggles genuine, the relationships they have with eachother reflecting bonds many readers can empathize with on many different levels. For me, it was a fantastic example of a series that took itself seriously but with enough awareness of its genre to let the characters be people and have fun with who they were instead of just being swallowed by their roles and the drama of the plots' darker aspects.These characters felt real, their stories and struggles felt like a proper series of adventures and the way they suffered and grew as people throughout the span of the series felt memorable and significant. This ending installment itself is a fitting and heartfelt example of that in its entirety, and without going into spoilers, any happy endings involved are as bittersweet as they are heartwarming for many of the characters in as many ways.I will miss this world, will miss these characters and can still easily see the potential for so much more that could lie ahead for them. Part of me hopes Maas will return to them sometime in the future, but even if that isn't the case this last installment stands as a testament to the series as a whole and a fitting conclusion to the adventure Maas began years ago with the story of a smart-tongued young assassin girl coming into a royal past she'd thought left far behind her. As an avid fantasy fiction fan, I heartily recommend this series to any and all comers, and can say that making it to this ending will be far from disappointing.❤❤❤ 5 stars doesnt seem like enough. Doesnt do this wonderful, amazing book justice. The emotions I felt reading this book, man....it was anger, frustration, sadness, joy, amazement, shock, and love. Im truly sad that this series has ended, but I could not be happier about the ending. Sarah J Maas did an amazing job tying up every loose end we could think of. This is, and forever will be, one of my all time favorite series. Thank you for giving us this chance to experience this world!
